Walk away wife syndrome is a term used to describe a situation in which a woman leaves her husband for reasons other than serious marital discord. This syndrome can occur in any type of marriage, but is more common in marriages where one or both spouses are relatively new to the relationship. In walk away wife syndrome, the woman may feel that she has outgrown the relationship and no longer wants to be married to her husband.
Often, the woman in walk away wife syndrome feels trapped by her husband. He may have threatened or physically harmed her in the past, making it difficult for her to leave him. Or he may have a controlling personality, which makes it difficult for her to assert herself sexually or emotionally. In either case, walking away from her husband can be very difficult emotionally and financially.
