Divorce is now available in India under certain conditions. Laws have been amended to make it easier for people to get divorced, and the process is becoming more affordable. There are no longer any residency requirements, and couples can divorce in either state or union territory of India. The fees are also much lower than they were in the past, with a basic fee of ₹10,000/- currently being charged by most lawyers.
The new rules do have a few restrictions. For example, couples cannot get divorced if one spouse is still married to their previous partner, or if one spouse has children from their previous relationship. Additionally, divorces cannot be granted on the grounds of adultery or mental cruelty, and couples must agree on all financial settlements before filing for divorce.
